Let's face it-- we are drawn to drums because they are a blast to play! While solid technique and continuous learning are pillars at Beats by J, so is having fun! Jeff focuses on bringing the best out of his students, even if it requires an abrupt change mid-lesson to re-center the student on the joy of drumming.

Notes From Jeff

Welcome to Beats By J! I offer drum instruction to people of all ages and abilities from my home studio in Browns Point (Northeast Tacoma), Washington. My journey with music began in elementary school where I first studied clarinet, piano, and alas the drums in 5th grade when I fell in love for the first time!
I have had the great fortune of studying with incredible teachers, including my very first drum teacher when I was 11 years old. While he may not have had the credentials that those listed above have, he single-handedly instilled my love of drums and music. He did this by ensuring that I had FUN while building skills. This is something that has carried with me throughout my lifetime, and inspired the BeatsByJ motto: "If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong!"
